The Overview

The Goal

UnionMoods is focused on emotional awareness and connection. The goal was to create an engaging experience that allows users to explore and value their emotions through augmented reality and interactive design, specifically within the context of Union Station.

Documentation

"Making the invisible visible: Mapping emotions in public transit."
Phase 01

Low Fidelity & Sketches

Initial ideation involved sketching out the user flow and visualizing how AR elements would overlay onto the physical environment. We focused on simple, intuitive interactions to avoid overwhelming the user in a busy transit hub.

Phase 02

User Journey Mapping

We mapped the emotional trajectory of a commuter using the app. Identifying key touchpoints where frustration or boredom peaks helped us position the AR interventions effectively.

Phase 03

High Fidelity Design

The final design incorporates a clean, modern aesthetic that contrasts with the chaotic station environment. The AR elements are bright and engaging, ensuring visibility in various lighting conditions.

Reflection

Our goal was to make invisible emotions visible in a shared public space. This project taught us that achieving this connection requires more than just visuals—it demands a deep understanding of the physical environment. We learned that what works on a screen must be adapted for scale, lighting, and movement to truly resonate in the real world.
